AWS-Kaleido Collaborates For A Simplified Blockchain PlatformBy Divya Singh | May 18, 2018, 3 p.m. GMT
Consensus 2018, in its 4th annual Blockchain Summit on 15th May 2018, brought the entire crypto world together. Some major attractions were:
- The US regulators opening up to Blockchain Technology and wanting to avoid any hindrance for development
- Crypto enthusiasts sharing strategies on how to research coins
- Lamborghini turning its attention towards and actively using Bitcoin
This and a whole lot more happened in the 3-day conference organized by CoinDesk this year. What took my attention, however, was the collaboration of Kaleido and AWS.
AWS has already created fully functional blockchain templates where anyone can start coding and create new blockchain-based applications. BaaS came into the picture to resolve the complex factors that kept business away from starting with Blockchain. Click here to read more about the AWS Blockchain Templates.
On 15th May 2018, ConsenSys collaborated with AWS to offer a new platform to simplify development and adoption of private Blockchain networks. Kaleido features popular Ethereum packages, Geth and Quorum, and further offers linking of private networks and public Ethereum mainnet, Integrated analytics, and support for multiple consensus protocols.
Steve Cerveny, Kaleido Founder said, "If blockchain doesn't become dramatically easier to use, companies will have to takeback their investments and our society will be far too slow in realizing blockchain's significant promise. We designed the Kaleido platform from scratch, using new user experiences and tools to radically simplify the entire enterprise journey. This all-in-one Blockchain Business Cloud changes the economic equation of an enterprise blockchain project. By offering a full solution that extends beyond do-it-yourself scripts or templates, Kaleido significantly speeds up development and deployment cycles, while dramatically lowering operating costs. What Salesforce did for CRMs, Kaleido will do for blockchain.
However, this is a slight hitch with this setup that ConsenSys and AWS are planning to solve. As per Gartners CIO survey, only 1% of the companies have been able to adopt Blockchain within their organization. While we all may be aware of the capabilities of Blockchain technology, we are unable to adopt it because of the complexity and complete knowledge on the matter.
Kaleido is an all-in-one enterprise SaaS platform that radically simplifies deployment and operation of secure private chains.
Kaleido comes with some excellent offerings:
Accelerates consortium journey
Beyond scripts and templates, Kaleido is designed to accelerate the consortium's entire journey from experimentation and PoCs to pilots and production. You can go from concept to consortium in a matter of minutes.
The service provides simple onboarding, distributed, and proxy operator models along with integrated block explorer and analytics. You can seamlessly and securely connect to other popular AWS services by linking your AWS account and enabling integrated services, such as PrivateLink.
Kaleido currently offers a choice between theEthereum protocol packages Geth and Quorum, among consensus algorithms such as RAFT, IBFT, and POA. You can enhance your private chain with public blockchain level security via an integrated state relay to the Ethereum mainnet or testnets, for transaction anchoring.
Distributed networks are not truly distributed unless multiple parties can manage the network together. Kaleidos integrated tooling is designed for collective governance of the network.
Kaleido is currently offering a no-charge access.
Kaleido is already being piloted by Union Bank. Justo Ortiz, Chairman of the Board for UnionBank said, "Our team was inspired to harness blockchain to reach farther into our rural communities of the Philippines. Many people are still financially excluded and we're looking to change that. In partnership with ConsenSys and running on the Kaleido platform, we successfully accelerated Project i2i into active pilot without the complexity and cost of starting from scratch."
Together AWS and ConsenSys are ready for changing the game by delivering one of most needed help for all enterprises. My suggestion for all my developer friends is to gear up and get ready to implement Blockchain technology. If you can develop your DApp on Ethereum, start with the free trial on AWS Marketplace or you can start learning all about developing a DApp using Solidity on Ethereum.
